Island Heritage Management Plans

The objectives of drawing up these plans are as to: (a) provide an initial diagnosis of the cultural heritage situation; (b) define the objectives that need to be achieved with the plan; (c) establish the priority lines where action is most needed within the reference two-year period; (d) define all the specific actions that need to be developed for each priority line.

“Adopt a monument” programme

This GI presents an example of a programme of public administrations incentivising private enterprise in the conservation and dissemination of historic heritage. Despite not being currently active, this programme forms part of the plan for historic heritage management of the Island Council of Menorca. The objective of the present GI is for private enterprise to become involved in the conservation and protection of Menorca’s cultural heritage, attracted by incentives and tax benefits, and by providing an example and a service to the society of Menorca and everyone who visits the island.

Governance of Cultural Routes

NECSTouR within its task force aims at elaborating an outline to analyse the governance of certified Routes The outline also aims at preparing cultural routes at the regional level in order to provide information on how the region is involved in developing cultural routes in various areas. The outline also concerns the modalities of mapping the financial, human and marketing management of cultural routes. The document is aimed, finally, at collecting data on the Cultural Routes per se and on the means and way of Regional Governance.

Green innovation in tourism services

This paper on Green Innovation in Tourism Services seeks to analyze the role of green innovation in the transition of tourism enterprises (hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, tour operators) to a green economy; how green innovation in tourism is supported in different countries (e.g. specific structures, mechanisms and good practices); and what can be done to accelerate the diffusion of green innovation in the sector. The paper provides a range of potential areas of policy focus to improve diffusion, strengthen markets and change consumer attitudes to green innovation in the tourism sector.

Guidelines for measuring competitiveness in tourism

This guide provides a measurement framework that includes a short list of core and additional indicators to guide governments in their analysis of tourism competitiveness and to inform tourism policy development. It offers an overall view of the main determinants of competitiveness to be taken into account by active policies in tourism. The report was reviewed and approved by the OECD Tourism Committee on 10 April 2013.

Criteria for Evaluation of Village Tourism Potential

The guide presents methods on how to identify, evaluate, classify and promote villages with potential for tourism. The guide is based on the experience of regions which have problems in preserving the local architecture as a valuable asset for tourism, and it offers solutions on how to create a network of villages with a high potential for tourism activities.

KIRA Networking Table and Joint Platform

The networking table is a simple but effective instrument to bring various people working directly or indirectly in cultural tourism in a region together. The networking table is defined as a physical established meeting place where actors in cultural tourism meet on a regular basis. The objective is to turn actors in cultural tourism from competitors into partners in order to jointly create new products and services and to jointly develop cultural tourism offers.
