Criteria for Evaluation of Village Tourism Potential

The guide presents methods on how to identify, evaluate, classify and promote villages with potential for tourism. The guide is based on the experience of regions which have problems in preserving the local architecture as a valuable asset for tourism, and it offers solutions on how to create a network of villages with a high potential for tourism activities.

Cultural Heritage Act

The Cultural Heritage Act 2002 has defined a new cultural heritage framework for Malta. The main objective of this framework is to ensure that Malta’s cultural heritage is adequately protected, conserved and promoted. The Act established the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage and the following other entities: • Committee of Guarantee • Heritage Malta • Malta Center for Restoration • National Forum

ECO Certification Scheme

The ECO certification scheme is the national standard for ensuring the environmental, socioeconomic, and cultural sustainability of hotels on the Maltese Islands and has been recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council as fully reflecting the GSTC criteria.

Route of Fortified Churches in Romania

B2 SERVICES > Information + B3 POINTS OF INTEREST > Cultural heritage | This Good Practice is part of a programme of information activities on the Route of Fortified Churches pertaining to the cultural landscape of 7 rural villages of Southern Transylvania founded in the middle ages by immigrant German Saxons and dominated by their fortified churches (once more than 300), that illustrate building styles from 13th to 16th century. Identified villages were listed in 1993 under n.596 in UNESCO World Heritage List. The Route initiative started in 2007 with support from EICR.
