On Friday, September 13, 2013 the Tourism Agency of the Balearic Islands (ATB) organized the 1st edition of the Local Seminar, part of CERTESS project activities, aimed at analysing cultural itineraries in the Balearic Islands and discussing with the local and regional interest groups, the opportunities, challenges and the potential for cultural routes to enhance the competitiveness of the Balearic Islands as tourist destination.
CERTESS European Project is led by the European Institute of Cultural Routes (EICR), with the Tourism Agency of the Balearic Islands (ATB) participating as a partner. The project has searched for good practices and governance instruments tools but has also shared experiences on cultural tourism amongst the partners to support the development of regional cultural itineraries at European level. It is a Project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and made possible by the Interreg IVC Programme.
It is widely known that linking heritage and tourism is highly beneficial for the social, economic and cultural development of the territories. The challenge, when developing cultural tourism, is thus to provide appropriate and imaginative products able to answer the new demands of tourists, which increasingly are eager to discover the essence of territories and cultures.
Therefore, this seminar aimed not only at diffusing CERTESS at regional level, but also at promoting an exchange of ideas among regional and local actors involved in cultural tourism in the Balearic Islands, with the ultimate goal to give a boost to this type of tourism in our islands.
