The Sibiu County Tourism Association (SCTA) is a non-profit organization that works in close relationship with the Sibiu County Council in the development of tourist infrastructures and the promotion of tourist resources in order to increase Sibiu county’s attractiveness as a tourist destination. Established in 2005, the Sibiu County Tourism Association is a NGO based on a public-private partnership. Its members are local administrations, tourist stakeholders associations, museums, universities and tourist development associations. SCTA mission is the development and the implementation of the Sibiu County Council tourism strategy.
In 2009-2010 SCTA was involved in the process of development of the county level master plan for the period 2010-2020 identified as a key factor of success in building a competitive and sustainable tourism industry in the region. Master planning is used as a tool for effective destination management involving private and public stakeholders.
In 2008, Sibiu took part in the European Commission initiative "European Destinations of Excellence” for the area of Marginimea Sibiului.
In 2010 SCTA developed tourist signage systems in close relationship with the County Council and the Ministry of Development and Tourism.
SCTA has worked for the conservation and enhancement of architectural heritage and vernacular buildings in the project “Enhancing the potential for cultural tourism in the villages of Transylvania“ as well as in the implementation of the Cultural Route of the Fortified Churches of Transylvaniae.
The association has expertise in establishing traditional craft teaching, farmers markets, and also connecting tourism & food sales by linking producers with visitors, local communities and stakeholders. In CERTESS project SCTA will bring in its expertise in networking. It is foreseen to set up an implementation plan for sustainable tourism in Sibiu county as a model for the region of the fortified churches.
