JAMK University of Applied Sciences (JAMK) has been established in 1992 and is accredited by the Ministry of Education. Higher education of tourism and hospitality has been offered since the establishment. JAMK strongly promotes the innovation and development of competence in the regional labour force. JAMKs work is an active contribution to the social and cultural development of Central Finland.
JAMK has participated in the development and implementation of regional tourism development strategy work for nearly twenty years. The coordination of the development of rural tourism in Central Finland transferred to JAMK since 2005 and JAMK has been a member of Tourism and Experience Competence Cluster during 2002-2010. Within the cluster, JAMK also coordinated the competence cluster of wellbeing tourismduring 2002-2006. In February 2011 JAMK was accepted as a member of the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) network.
Active role in regional tourism development has also resulted in many regional and interregional projects funded by ESF and EU, such as “Tourism and Hospitality Business Clinic”, “Hotel and Restaurant Entrepreneurs Education”, “Event Tourism”, “Effective Networking Within Tourism”. JAMK has organized 4 international tourism industry and education symposiums from 1999 to 2009.
Sustainable tourism and culture are two the focal points of JAMKs R&D-activities. The focal points ensure that previous regional and national R&D-projects have strong synergy also with the CERTESS project. JAMK will bring to CERTESS its experience in tourism policy development work in Central Finland, sustainable tourism, and results from other projects, such as “Sustainable Tourism Development”, “Pioneers of Responsible Business in Central Finland” and “Event Map”.
JAMK's interest in the CERTESS project is in creating new opportunities to enhance cultural sustainability within tourism business.
